International Women’s Day 2025: Empowering Mums in Singapore – Celebrating Strength, Balance & Joy!
5 Years as a Stay-at-Home Mum in Singapore: The Untold Struggles, Sacrifices, and Why It’s Worth it.
Motherhood is a rollercoaster, and being a stay-at-home mum for the past 5 years has been both rewarding and challenging. Time flies, but the hurdles never stop! “Even though I’m not working a full-time job, my days are incredibly packed as a stay-at-home mum in Singapore. From grocery shopping and managing family needs—like buying clothes, books, and home essentials—to paying bills and handling school matters, my to-do list never ends. I’m constantly comparing deals to stretch our budget, tackling housework like packing and cleaning, and guiding homework for the kids. On top of it all, I’m working on my content creation journey. Every day is a whirlwind of tasks, and while it’s exhausting, it’s all for the love of my family. To the outside world, it might look like
I’m lounging around, but behind the scenes, I’m juggling a million things—often feeling unseen and underappreciated.
Becoming a stay-at-home mum in 2020 (Why?) was a tough decision for our family. Growing up, I always imagined myself as a full-time working mum, but life had other plans. I miss my corporate life sometimes—the steady income, the independence, and the sense of achievement. It’s different now, relying on an allowance from my hubby instead of earning my own money.
Some people question my choice, asking, ‘Why waste your education and work experience?’ Others imply that full-time working mums are more capable, which can feel unfair and lonely. It’s a constant dilemma: Should I return to the corporate world to ease financial stress or stay home for the kids?
At the end of the day, I am positive this was the choice we felt was best for our family, (even if it came at my expense). We’ve noticed so many positive changes in our kids’ growth since making the decision for me to stay home. We’ve successfully reduced their screen time, established earlier bedtimes, and, most importantly, I’ve been able to spend more quality time with them. This has allowed me to better understand their needs and adjust my parenting methods along the way. Of course, there are moments when it feels overwhelming, but seeing the positive impact on our family makes it all worth it. Remember—it’s okay to feel stretched at times, but the little wins truly matter!”
Heartfelt thank you to my family and friends for their unwavering support—both physically and emotionally. Your help and encouragement have been my backbone, allowing me to navigate this journey as a stay-at-home mum in Singapore without needing a full-time helper. I couldn’t have made it this far without you! And let’s not forget my trusty robot helpers—like my robot vacuum, dishwasher, and dryer—which have been lifesavers in managing the daily grind. To all the mums out there, finding the right support (both human and tech!) can make all the difference in balancing family life and self-care.”
Since increasing our income isn’t always an option, I’ve focused on what I can control—reducing costs wherever possible. As a stay-at-home mum, I’ve become a pro at comparing shopping deals across platforms like Shopee, Lazada, Amazon, and FairPrice. Even when ordering food deliveries, I always check GrabFood and Foodpanda to find the best price—because every dollar saved counts!
It’s surprising how the same item or meal can vary so much in price across different platforms. Since I’m already putting in the effort to compare, I thought, why not share these money-saving tips with all of you? I am posting my finds and deals on my Instagram channel—let’s navigate this journey of smart spending and saving together! Because as mums, we know every little bit helps when it comes to stretching the budget for our families.
To all mums (including full time working mums) out there, your sacrifices matter, and you’re not alone. Let’s celebrate the strength it takes to choose this path! Happy International Woman’s Day 2025!
